Sr. Boys Volleyball with Mr. Carter

By: Kawthar Almostafa

I interviewed Mr. Cal Carter, the senior boys volleyball team coach. Here are some things that he said:

KA: “How is this year’s season and is it better than last year’s? How is it different from last year’s team?”

CC: “It is a different team from last year but I think we are just as talented as [the team]  last year but it’s a different team, completely, yeah we are on a steady climb upwards. I think it’s getting better.”

KA:  “Who are you most impressed by?

CC: “I feel like I have a lot of leaders on the team that have different roles. So we’ve picked different people to lead different areas of the team right so we have on-court leaders we have off-court leaders. We have some people who are, you know, looking after the younger players mentoring them. It’s hard to just pick one specific person but my captains [Eric Woodley and Caleb Newkirk] are doing a really good job.

KA: “I was going to ask the same; who’s the person you would say is the team leader! [Next], what are your hopes for the remainder of the season?

CC: “Well, I mean my hope is to make it to provincials. We have a tough road ahead of us to get there, but I think it’s very doable. [The] top 2 teams from Regionals go on to Provincials and I think we could be one of those top 2 teams. So yeah, anything can happen! I would like to be in the City Finals which also could happen but again, there’s 3 teams that are kind of at the top of the league this year that are really, really close.

KA: “Thank you for your time!”

As of publication (November 2022), the boys team have progressed to Regionals on November 19 in Yorkton, SK.
