The Band Trip

by: Judy Tong Jin

This amazing trip started in the morning of March 10, 2023. Band students got on the bus bright and early at 7:30 a.m. and headed to their destination – Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Paul McCorriston, Mr. Deans, and Ms. Emma Hill were chaperones for this trip.

During their travels to Edmonton, they set up equipment and performed at St. Vital Elementary School in Manitoba. It seemed like the kids really enjoyed the pieces “Mission Impossible” and “Mars.” About 5 hours later, they arrived at the hotel in Edmonton. After a little break, the bus headed to the West Edmonton Mall, where the students and staff all had a great time there.

The next morning, they got up as the sun was about to rise. The students and staff got on the bus on their way to MacEwan University in Edmonton. The Band Clinic there went well, “Overture For Winds” was played. Mr. Baril supported and gave some suggestions about how to improve skills on instruments. After that, the bus boarded at University of Alberta and students and staff had lunch at U of A Food Court. The rest of the day was theirs after The Band Clinic. They went to the mall again, lots of them bought the stuff they wanted and needed, and enjoyed the delicious food in the mall. The afternoon passed quickly, next was Planet Laser for laser tag. Some of the students decided to go to watch the opera, and the rest of them went back to the hotel after laser tag. Everyone had a fun night in Edmonton!

On Sunday, March 12,  the band traveled home; it was a long 10 hours! All the band students enjoyed this excellent band trip!
