Sincerely, I Won\u2019t Stay Silent.<\/strong>

Why must I stay silent
\nFor the ones that stay violent,
\nTo the stares that share
\nThe truth within the silence.<\/p>\n

I have heard generations of resilience
\nFrom people of colour fighting:
\nFor equality,
\nFor change,
\nFor acceptance.
\nOur ancestors are watching with anticipation;
\nWaiting to see us take action.
\nWe walk with grace and dignity
\nContinuing forwards together, in rhythm.
\nA light is coming and I will not let darkness take over.
\nI will not stay silent.<\/p>\n

News and stories fill my thoughts
\nWondering if all is lost.
\nInnocents getting beaten, hated, and killed.
\nThey wonder why there\u2019s a rise in violence
\nWhen they took away our rights
\nTo make a peaceful utterance.
\nThey pick and choose
\nLike they\u2019ve got nothing to lose,
\nBut when all sets loose
\nThey abuse their privileges.
\nForgive me for hate is a strong word,
\nBut how could I not hate on someone
\nWho destroys our worth?<\/p>\n

We should not have to take the consequences
\nFor the problems that they\u2019ve caused.
\nThis oppression is weighing down,
\nMaking us fall on the cold, hard ground.
\nThey look down on us like we don\u2019t matter
\nBut would they care if they knew
\nOur hearts,
\nOur minds,
\nOur souls,
\nare shattered?<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t look the other way.
\nI\u2019ve built up enough courage
\nThat my heart yearns for me to yell it.
\nI say these words
\nWith a privileged life,
\nYet the only thing I can hear is the ringing in my ears
\nAnd the sound of my beating heart.<\/p>\n
